Protecting water to sustain life and secure a healthy future.

Climate change and over-development poses risks to natural habitats around the world, but we have the power to find a solution.

Our mission is to protect the freshwater systems in Ohrid and Prespa by a joint effort between the people, their governments, and our supporters.

Unique aquatic ecosystem

3M YEARS

Lake Ohrid, one of the largest and oldest lakes was formed by tectonic activity millions of years ago.

1,200 SPECIES

The lake has about 1,200 known native species, with 212 being unique to it and found nowhere else.

131,000 PEOPLE

Large, fast-growing cities in three countries by the lake are stressing the delicate ecosystem.

Protecting vulnerable natural resources is possible

Together, we can preserve this natural phenomenon by successfully executing our initiatives – from eliminating pollution and advocating for regulations to securing sustainable growth.

Trusting in expertise and passion

Our leadership team brings years of experience to bear on the greatest challenges. Combining experts from the academia, research institutes, government officials, and executives, we can jointly make immediate impact to protect this.

Collaborating across multiple borders

This is a project across three countries – N. Macedonia, Albania, and Greece. Our team is working with their governments and organizations to realize our initiatives.

This is a movement of millions. Whether you’re most comfortable contributing time to help achieve our goals, money to help us grow, or energy to advocate, we need you on our team.

“OPCF’s major conservation goals are vital to protect one of the largest freshwater lakes in Europe. This organization inspires everyone to protect our habitat. I’m thrilled to be part of the efforts to save the beautiful Ohrid and Prespa watershed”
